May is one of the months when coastal and cultural routes in Türkiye are strong at the same time. Days are longer, the summer crush has not fully started, and an outdoor plan is easier to build in many regions. Even so, do not expect the same sea temperature on the northern Aegean as on the Antalya coast.
Fethiye: sea and walking in balance
You can plan Ölüdeniz and the area around it as more than a beach holiday: boats, walks and short trips nearby. On a five-night stay, leaving one day completely empty balances the trip better than assigning every day to a different cove.
Kaş: town pace before summer
If you stay in the centre, you can spend the evenings without needing a car. For sea activities, check the current weather and whether operators are running.
Datça: do not rush the long peninsula
On a trip shorter than three nights, pick one or two main experiences instead of stacking Knidos, Eski Datça and a long list of coves into the same day.
Cappadocia: a strong stretch for being outdoors
Mild days can make walking easier. Balloon flights still depend on the weather; it is sensible not to leave them until the last morning.
Bozcaada: quiet before the season
It can be a good time for the town and for walking the island. Do not assume beach businesses and local transport are running at summer frequency.
Marmaris and the coves nearby
Official tourism sources describe Marmaris as a centre where the Aegean and the Mediterranean meet, with many coves and sea activities. On a May itinerary, it is a good idea to put a land-based alternative next to a boat or sea day.
The booking advantage in May
It can be easier to find options than on the busiest summer dates, but weekends, public holidays and event dates can still move the price quickly. Look at real demand for your travel dates, not at the name of the month.
Last check before you book
Check the dates, the number of guests and the children’s ages, the room category, the meal plan, the cancellation deadline and the total amount payable one last time. For seasonal services and weather-dependent activities, confirm the current information close to departure, directly with the business or an official source.
